This smooth jar has two shaped handles and inner dark glazing. The patination of time visible on its lichen dappled surface and superb texture. In remarkable original condition. This particular Tuscan terracotta is produced in Montelupo, an ancient town on the outskirts of Florence. The earliest known examples date to c.1720-50 and were produced to ship Italian olive oil to Britain.
