Italian Cherub Mirror c.1770

Italian Cherub Mirror c.1770

An absolutely beautiful Italian mirror with Cherubs and foxed glass. c.1770.

The mirror has wonderful wear and patina, to both the frame and the glass.

The gilded gesso carved frame is abundant with rococo scrolls, vine leaves and flora. A pair of dancing winged cherubs or angels flank the sides of the mirror and two angelic faces set together surmount the top.

The mirror still reflects, but it is foxed, irregular and illusive. The tin-mercury amalgam now giving the glass a blue cast with unmistakable glittering of the glass when lit.

A romantic addition to any space.
