Sculpted from translucent perfectly white and luminous Carrara marble.

The Crouching Venus is a Hellenistic statue of Venus at her bath. Also known as ‘Aphrodite’, the 'Crouching Venus' which this work is based on, dates from the Antonine period (2nd century AD) and is a Roman version of the Hellenistic original from 200 BC.

Depicted in a nude crouching pose, with her hair gathered loosely on her head and partially falling over her left shoulder, with her right arm bent in front her body and her left arm resting on her left leg.

Minor historic repair to right thumb. Including wooden painted plinth. Total height 131cm (Venus is 59cm high)
