Life-size Regency Humphrey Hopper Plaster Statues of Athena and Demeter from Harewood House c.1815

Life-size Regency Humphrey Hopper Plaster Statues of Athena and Demeter from Harewood House c.1815

A very rare pair of dynamic Regency plaster statues c.1815 by Royal Academy artist and sculptor Humphrey Hopper (1767-1844) with wonderful provenance from Harewood House, North Yorkshire - one of Yorkshire’s finest Stately Homes.

You can see how Hopper was greatly inspired by Canova and exquisite Italian Classical sculpture in this rare pair of Regency statues, once displayed in the library at Harewood House.

Humphrey Hopper initially created classical sculptures but later focused on monumental masonry. His work included memorial busts and monuments, notably a government commission for General Andrew Hay's memorial in St. Paul's Cathedral

The duo of Greek goddesses, Athena and Demeter, stand with commanding grace atop plaster plinths adorned with circular motifs. Athena embodies wisdom and strategic power, while Demeter exudes nurturing strength and fertility.

Classically beautiful and strong female figures making a dramatic statement.

A unique opportunity to own an important piece of history.
