Tall Pair of Italian Silver-gilt Altar Candlesticks Late 17th/Early 18th Century
An exquisite and elegantly proportioned tall pair of Italian Silver-gilt Altar Candlesticks Late 17th/Early 18th Century.
Carved from wood with subtle polychromed silver-gilt over gesso.
The top of the candlesticks consist of metal work drip pans, raised on turned baulster stems and their bases are triform with curved scrolled feet.
Having very time-worn but beautiful patination to the surfaces, perfectly imperfect in their faded-grandeur aesthetic.
The oversized candlesticks would have originally graced a private Palazzo or a Church Altar.
